The short version

We collect as little as we can get away with. You can read every page on this site without an account, without logging in, and without telling us who you are.

WhatDo we collect it?Why

Cookies set by this siteNoNothing here needs a cookie

Analytics

This builds of the site can run with no analytics at all, and it currently does. If we enable an analytics provider, it will be one of the privacy-respecting options (for example Plausible) or Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation switched on.

When analytics is enabled, what it gives us is aggregate: page views, referring sites, country, device class, and which search terms brought people here. That is used to decide what to write next and what to fix. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not sold.

You can block it without breaking anything. The site works identically with JavaScript disabled and with every tracking script blocked. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, our configuration is set to respect it.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies of its own. Because there are no advertising or analytics cookies being set by default, there is no cookie consent banner: a banner that only exists to give permission for something we are not doing would be theatre.

If advertising is enabled in future, that changes, and this page will be updated before it does. Third-party advertising networks set their own cookies and identifiers, which we do not control. At that point a consent mechanism appropriate to your region will be added first.

The newsletter

If you enter your email address in the subscribe form:

  • We store the address, and nothing else about you.
  • We use it to send the newsletter, and for nothing else.
  • We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers.
  • Every issue contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address.

You can also ask us to delete your address at any time by writing to editorial@slopatlas.com.

Server logs

Like every website, this one is delivered by a hosting provider, and that provider processes requests in order to serve pages and protect against abuse. Those logs are generated and held by the host under their own policy. We do not use them to identify individual readers, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Your rights

If you are in a jurisdiction with data protection law, such as the EU, UK, or a US state with a privacy statute, you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Given how little we hold, in practice this usually means one newsletter address or nothing at all.

Write to editorial@slopatlas.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the change will appear here with a new updated date. Material changes, such as switching on advertising or analytics from a provider that uses personal data, will be described in plain language rather than quietly edited in.
